Senegal 2023

For this Arabic month of Ramadan Muslims around the world are fasting from food and drink from sunup to sundown. Many also fast from smoking, sex, card playing, “secular” music, and other non-Islamic activities. In the Senegalese heat, going without water from approximately 6 AM to 7 PM each day is the most difficult physical test of Ramadan.

Families wake very early to eat a hearty breakfast before sunrise. At sunset, they break the fast together with coffee, bread, and special foods like imported dates. A big meal is enjoyed later in the evening. Many families spend more on food during the month of fasting than at any other time of the year, although this tradition is frowned upon by many Islamic religious leaders.

Many Muslims believe Allah grants greater reward for acts of religious devotion and obedience during the thirty day fast. All night prayer and Quranic chanting vigils fill the air. Attending corporate prayers at the mosque and doing good works earn more merit from Allah, some say ten times more, during this “holy” month.

PRAISE

“All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.” (Psalm 86:9)

KINGDOM COME

“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.” (Matthew 13:19)

We pray for many hearts in Senegal to be receptive to the Kingdom seed that would take root, grow, and reproduce 30, 60, and 100 fold. May God create good, fertile soil out of hearts that are closed and hard toward the Gospel seed of Jesus.

PRAY THE BOOK OF ACTS

“I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth…and the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.” (Acts 13:47,49)

Thank you that Senegal is a part of those ’ends of the earth.’ We agree with Your word today Lord and pray that it would spread throughout the whole region of Senegal. Thank you for the freedom to teach, preach, and spread your word in this majority Muslim land. Please keep these doors open so more sinners might discover the love and grace of Jesus.

PRAY THE HALL OF FAITH

“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, ’Through Isaac shall your offspring be named’.” (Hebrews 11:17-18)

Lord, may Senegalese be like Abraham, exhibiting radical, immediate, and costly obedience. Father, may they be open to receiving the blessing of Abraham, to be adopted into his spiritual family, and eventually rejoice with Abraham in the heavenly Kingdom.

PRAYER

Lord, we pray as Senegalese Muslims are seeking to appease you with their religious activities, memorized prayers, and good works this month of Ramadan, that you will have mercy on them. Show them the light and grace found only in Jesus. They are not aware of the darkness in which they live.
