A multiplying gospel movement doesn’t happen quickly or easily, and ultimately the God of heaven and earth determines if and when a movement emerges. Our part as his people is to pray fervently on behalf of the lost people of Senegal, develop outreach tools and ministries, seek people of peace among them, share God’s Word with them, and train leaders for the emerging church. Missionaries and national Christians in Senegal endeavor to “get our sails up and open” as people from around the world consistently pray for the Spirit of the Living God to blow through Senegal and empower our efforts.
Missionaries and national Christians train and coach Christians to lead simple Discovery Bible Studies (DBS) with unbelievers. In a DBS, a small group of people simply read together a pre-selected Bible passage two or three times, retell it in their own words, respond to a few predetermined questions, and determine what they should do to obey that passage. The process relies on the Bible, rather than a teacher or curriculum to communicate God’s message. It’s simple, and practically anyone can facilitate a DBS.
“For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.” (Malachi 1:11)
“I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Matthew 26:29)
At the end of each hot, dry day during the Ramadan fast, Senegalese Muslims long for their thirst to be quenched and their stomachs to be filled with delicious food. Father, would you give them a thirst for your truth and righteousness. Give them a hunger for your word.
May your Church’s anticipation be growing for the day when Jesus drinks again of the fruit of the vine that He secured through His death, burial, and resurrection. May your people live in light of that reality—your reigning return that will reveal the truth of your Word. We pray there will be thousands and thousands of Senegalese from every ethnic group around that banqueting table when we sing in unison praises to the Lamb of God who has fully and forever taken away our sins and borne our shame.
Thank you, Lord, for what we read in the book of Acts! Father, we ask that you pour out your Spirit upon the people of Senegal so that we might hear of similar stories and events that can only be explained by the work of your power and grace. We pray for unprecedented Kingdom advance this year in Senegal!
“They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” (Hebrews 11:37-38)
Thank you for our Christian brothers and sisters in Senegal—of whom this world is not worthy. Protect them from the evil one and preserve their faith. May every persecution and difficulty that comes into their lives due to their faith in Jesus only strengthen their resolve and demonstrate the lasting value of the treasure they’ve discovered in Christ.
Father, we pray for believers in Senegal to live lives of faith, mercy, and integrity. Father, help many of them learn to share their faith and teach your Word through simple, but effective Discovery Bible studies. May their beautiful life testimony and good relationships with unbelievers allow them to invite their friends, family, and neighbors to explore the claims of the Bible and discover the love and truth found only in Jesus of Nazareth.
